A group of Austrian researchers are proposing that basal FSH levels are predictive of ovarian reserve and therefore may be predictive of the number of oocytes that may be retrieved.
In a retrospective study of just over 500 in total, those women in the 25-35 age group and in the lower quartiles of FSH levels, showed increased numbers of oocytes retrieved. No statistical correlation was found with other outcomes such as pregnancy rates and miscarriage.
