ACCESS Australia, the national patient support group for people affected by infertility, welcomes The Hon Tony Abbott, Federal Minister for Health & Ageing, decision to respect and support the reproductive choices of Australian women. “This afternoon’s announcement by the Minister confirming there will be no restriction to IVF treatment either on the basis of maternal age or number of treatment cycles is applauded by Australians experiencing difficulties conceiving,” said Sandra Dill, CEO ACCESS Australia. “This means Australians can make informed decisions, in consultation with their treating physicians, about which options meet their needs,” she said. “We particularly welcome the Government’s long awaited decision to support ICSI, a treatment for male factor infertility, under Medicare. Couples needing access to this treatment to have a family, look forward to seeing an ICSI Medicare rebate without further delay”. “We also welcome the Minister’s decision to strengthen the national accreditation process of RTAC by linking it to Medicare. This will increase the confidence of people wishing to access quality treatment to have a family,” she concluded. Click here for more news items |
